New open Air Container mall in Wichita

A new open air container mall is opening up in Wichita, Kansas and it is the talk of the town. Looking to transform a downtown area into a trendy hotspot, there is a new development happening in the city.

Using 36 stacked 40 foot containers, a new container mall is beginning to take shape in a less popular part of town. Local developer Michael Ramsay’s idea is not only unique, it is designed specifically to attract local shoppers. “If we build a strip mall there, we’d get a check cashing place or something that doesn’t benefit that neighborhood, and what have we done?” Ramsey said. “Nobody would come to it. No one would walk to it. We’ve got plenty of those things” says Ramsay.

Ramsay has proposed to ‘think outside of the box’ and create an open air hub for shopping and eateries called “Revolutsia”. Ramsay plans to paint the containers shades of gray, white and green. It will eventually hold 12 to 15 businesses and will be arranged in a square. Plans include a courtyard, firepit and two levels of decks for outdoor seating.

The development company is looking to build up less popular, or as they call them “transitional areas” to see more foot traffic and build up the economy in less exalted locations. It is a great idea to help develop areas and create commerce.
